Clipstone Headstocks and Raleigh Museum

The museum is home to the world's largest collection of Raleigh bicycles, featuring more than 50 bikes from across the company's history, alongside mopeds, motorcycles, rare three-wheeled Raleigh cars and an original 1932 Karryall. Displays of vintage posters, banners, tools and spare parts help tell the story of one of Nottinghamshire's most famous manufacturers.

Visitors can also discover the county's rich transport heritage, including exhibits exploring the world's first tarmac road, laid in Nottinghamshire, and Britain's first speed time trials, held at nearby Clipstone in 1900.

Military history features throughout the museum, from the story of Clipstone Camp, once the largest army training camp in Britain, to displays showcasing Nottinghamshire's role during both World Wars. Exhibits include military equipment, vehicles, artillery and a Model T Ford bearing genuine bullet holes.

The museum's extensive Cold War collection includes a range of unusual military vehicles, from amphibious transports to scout cars and anti-aircraft vehicles.

A highlight of any visit is learning about Clipstone Colliery and the iconic Headstocks. Through an underground training experience, visitors can gain an insight into the lives of the miners who worked more than 3,000 feet below ground and discover how Clipstone became home to the world's tallest mine headstocks.
